Christina Doula – San Diego

Christina Klave, CD(DONA), LEC

Certified Birth Doula And Lactation Education Counselor

What is a doula? The word doula comes from the Greek word “doule” which translates to female helper or maidservant. The emotional, physical and informational help continuously offered by a doula is essential for the birthing woman to feel supported, listened to, and comforted during labor. Studies show the use of a doula decreases C Section, length of labor, and forceps deliveries, and increases health bonuses for both the mother and her baby.

MY

MISSION

My mission is to support and empower women and their partners throughout pregnancy and during the labor process as they transition into motherhood. I serve all of San Diego and the surrounding areas and provide support at home births, hospital births, and birthing center births. My commitment to my clients is to provide you with advocacy and support for whatever you decide your birthing experience should be. I have supported all types of birth experiences, including unmedicated births, epidural births, C Sections, VBACs, gestational diabetes, placenta previa, “geriatric” pregnancies, and many more. From our first encounter, I strive to make you feel safe, supported, encouraged, and listened to. My background as a licensed marriage and family therapist helps me to integrate skills of therapeutic support into your pregnancy and birth experience. As a military spouse myself, I understand the unique stressors brought on by the military lifestyle and work to provide consistency and support for my military families whether or not your partner is able to be there for the birth of your child. I strongly believe that your birth partner is one of your greatest assets. To this end, I encourage all partners to be involved during our journey together, whether in person or remotely as much as possible!

*As of March, 2022, I am a Tricare Approved Doula and am excited to help my Tricare families get their fees reimbursed!

Words cannot express how incredibly grateful I am for Christina’s support during my labor. Her comfort measures, tools, information, and support helped me get through with much less anxiety than I anticipated. She helped me slow down and make decisions that TRULY aligned with my birth preferences and for that I can look back without wishing I’d done anything differently.

Christina’s incredible skills and background, combined with knowledge and experience seem to fall to the background with her calming and peaceful presence. She is a beautiful person inside and out and we are forever grateful.

Thank you for everything you did for me- we could not be more appreciative. You made this the best birthing experience we had.

Paige

I don’t know how we could have gotten through this without Christina- we went from emergency C section back to a vaginal birth and she helped us to stay calm and cool throughout, all while encouraging us and keeping me as comfortable as possible. Christina is our rockstar hero!
